The third time must be the charm for a Mentor manufacturer looking for a new home.

Mold Masters International — a maker of tooling and wax patterns for the aerospace industry — is moving its Pattern Division from 8341 Tyler Blvd. to allow redevelopment of the corner northwest of Tyler and Route 615.

The 56-year-old company had intended to build a 43,000-square-foot facility adjacent to its main plant at 7500 Clover Ave. However, wetlands were an issue.

The company then looked to locate a larger project in the expanding Liberty Business Park, off of Justin Way down the street. This plan also fell through.

Enter Eastlake.

Mold Masters recently signed a lease for a 78,000-square-foot building at 34000 Vokes Road. The relocation will take place in late summer.

The move serves a strategic purpose for the business, CEO Jeff Scott said.

“We are relocating to expand our operation from 50,000 square feet to nearly 80,000 square feet to better meet our (aerospace) customer demands,” he said. “We are also co-locating both our tooling and pattern franchises to better execute against our value proposition, serving our engineering customers’ needs end-to-end under one roof.”

Eastlake Mayor Dennis Morley said he welcomes the company, which will bring more than 200 jobs to town.

“This is a perfect fit for Mold Masters and the city,” he said. “They will go into an area with other businesses that have been thriving over the last few years. Jeff’s plan shows them growing by 2021 in both revenues and employees…

“Mold Masters brings in 215 jobs that will help Eastlake’s economy in income tax collections and retail and restaurants with their employees coming here.”

Mentor had approved a grant toward the initial Mold Master’s relocation project.

“A disappointing turn of events, to be sure,” said Ronald M. Traub, Mentor economic and community development director, who added that “a deal could not be struck” for the Liberty Business Park property.

Pursuing an existing building made better financial sense, Scott said.

“We are very excited to be moving to Eastlake and becoming a choice employer for the community,” he said. “The core vision for our company is to make better the lives of our customers, our employees, their families, and, ultimately, the community in which we belong. Eastlake has been very accommodating and helpful to make this transition a reality. They have welcomed us with open arms.”
